How to Plan Your Trip Here

Three steps. That’s it.

1

Decide where to stay

Everything else depends on location, traffic, and lodging type.

2

Choose the right area or lodging

Downtown, Parkway, cabins, hotels — the tradeoffs matter.

3

Plan activities around that choice

Once lodging is set, the rest falls into place.

The Honest Answers

When's the best time to visit Gatlinburg?

Spring (April-May) and fall (September-October) have the best weather. Summer is packed. Winter is dead quiet or gridlocked, depending on the week.

How many days do I need?

Three days. One for downtown, one for hiking, one for driving Cades Cove.

Is Gatlinburg expensive?

Yes, if you fall for the traps. Lodging is pricey, but the best parts (the mountains) are free.

Do I need a car?

Yes. The trolley is fine for downtown, but meaningless if you want to actually see the mountains.
